There is a bumper midweek on the horizon, with some of the most pivotal matchups happening all in the space of five days.

Drama-filled action awaits from across the world of sports in a week that will be season-defining.

Tuesday 5th May: UEFA Champions League (UCL): Arsenal v Atletico Madrid, 20:00.

The first of the UCL semi-final second legs gets underway in the capital as a stalemate needs to be rectified between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners are currently maintaining their position at the top of the Premier League table after their 3-0 victory over Fulham over the weekend. But, with Manchester City breathing down their necks with games in hand, attentions turn to the continent as Arteta’s side looks to reach the first UCL in two decades.

The first leg portrayed what many thought beforehand, a game of fine margins that showed how important the defensive side of the game is. Two mistakes by the teams fighting for the apex of European football led to the openings, amidst a display of technical ability and class.

A Viktor Gyökeres penalty, awarded just before the halftime whistle, opened the scoring after David Hancko bundled over the Swedish striker in the box. It was not long into the second half before the scores were evened by a Ben White handball in the box that led to ex-Manchester City man Julian Alvarez thumping home his penalty.

The second leg will likely see both teams clinging to their chances of a breakthrough. With home advantage, Arsenal will have the upper hand, especially considering that before their 1-1 draw, they had previously demolished Atleti 4-0.

Simeone’s men will be in high spirits, though, after rectifying a horrendous run of form of four losses in a row in all competitions to now three matches unbeaten and with a real chance to turn around a season where they have relinquished title hopes in La Liga with a Champions League final.

Wednesday, May 6th, UEFA Champions League: Bayern Munich vs. PSG, 20:00.

As one second leg concludes, another one approaches in Munich, featuring the tie that neutrals are most eagerly anticipating, with everything still to play for.

The first leg in Paris was a firecracker of a 90 minutes that saw a record-breaking nine goals scored in a first leg of a UCL semi-final.

PSG looked to be cruising to back-to-back finals after the reigning champions took a 5-2 lead in the 58th minute with help from a brace from both Dembele and Kvaratskhelia.

From then it was a Bayern fightback that brought the excitement back into the affair as two goals in the space of three minutes from Upamecano and Luis Diaz gave them a lifeline heading into the second leg.

A 5-4 scoreline was unexpected, but it indicates two sides fighting at the top of their game. None of which is more evident when looking also at their league form, as both have shown the pedigree needed to compete at the top of the game in their respective leagues, as Bayern now have a 13-point gap at the top of the Bundesliga, whilst PSG have less of an advantage but still a healthy six-point gap to second.

With such a rip-roaring display in the first leg, much is to be expected from another meeting between the two. But no matter the scoreline, it is certain that the match will be full of drama and high-octane action rarely seen anywhere else.

Thursday, 7th May, the BetMGM Premier League match will feature Gerwyn Price vs. Jonny Clayton at 19:10. Price v Jonny Clayton 19:10

As the Darts Premier League reaches its apex of the regular season, each throw of a dart becomes ever more important and impactful on those eight world-class competitors fighting for the top four.

This week, the first matchup of the night is a battle between two men nestled in the playoff spots as second-placed Jonny Clayton takes on fellow countryman and third-placed Gerwyn Price in Leeds.

Despite the short distance between them in the league table, Clayton has created a huge lead of 11 points to Price. This has been his imperious form that has seen him pick up four nightly wins, with just one less night won than league leader Luke Littler whilst sharing the same number of matches won.

The ferret's tally could have been even higher if he had not lost two finals; had he won these, he would be at the top of the league. But instead he has carved out a path as one of the most consistent performers with still a chance to overcome the two-point deficit that currently separates him from Littler.

Gerwyn Price has similarly had a successful season but now finds himself In a battle of keeping pace with the top four, as just three points are between him and Van Gerwen, with a healthier five-point gap to Van Veen in fifth.

The Iceman has racked up two nightly wins in a season where he has also missed out on further glory if not for a final loss to Luke Littler on night seven. Glory is still on the cards if he can make the most of the remaining three nights, and if he can continue in the top four, then all is still to play for.

Date: 07/05/2026

Time: 19:10

Venue: First Direct Arena, Leeds

The match will be shown on Sky Sports Darts.

Friday, 8th May Skybet Championship Playoffs: Hull City v Millwall 20:00

The Championship playoffs, the most anticipated round of fixtures in the EFL season, are set to begin in East Yorkshire this week.

Hull made it into the playoffs on the final day with a comeback win over Norwich at the MKM, as Oli McBurnie fired home a brace to secure a vital 2-1 victory that was helped by Wrexham and Derby both dropping points.

Despite a transfer embargo that many predicted could be the undoing of their season, it has instead led to a side that has battled since the first match and given themselves a chance at glory.

Millwall, like the Tigers, have been a surprising contender at the top of the table, nearly securing automatic promotion as they headed into matchday 46.

A win for Millwall on the final day over already relegated Oxford was still not enough thanks to Ipswich Town’s 3-0 win over QPR, which resulted in them taking second place by just a point.

The Lion’s reward for the highest placing in the playoffs is a trip to sixth and a visit to a Hull side that has only picked up one win from their last seven.

On the flip side, Millwall have only suffered one defeat in eight, a record that will breathe confidence into a match that has ended with a win apiece in the regular season. Interestingly, both victories were for the away side, which could also play into Millwall’s hands, but Hull will be hopeful that the job can be done at home before a long journey to the capital.
