Out of Many People has announced its first festival of Black literature for children and young adult readers in Yorkshire.

Harrogate International Festivals, a registered arts charity with a mission to bring accessible arts, literature, community and education projects to Yorkshire and beyond is taking The Big Read on tour for a series of free events in libraries across Yorkshire and the North of England on 22-24 September.

I think this was a first for me: an all-day festival in a skatepark underneath a motorway in Manchester. Meltchester promised a day of psych rock and garage bands, which is very much something I was interested in experiencing. There were a couple of changes to the lineup on the day, and I’d only seen 2 of the 8 bands previously, so I was keen to see what, to me, were lots of new sounds.

Manchester’s grassroots festival Green Island has shared their full lineup for 2025. This year the festival will return to Hulme Community Garden Centre, in the musically rich area of Hulme. Harrogate International Festivals has revealed the full programme for the 2025 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, the globally renowned celebration of crime fiction, at a special reception at Hachette, Carmelite House in London.

Trumpet player Aaron Azunda Akugbo is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and an ex-principal of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He cites Louis Armstrong as his biggest musical inspiration and made his London debut at the Royal Festival Hall playing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with Chineke! in 2020.

Dewsbury-based global arts organisation, Manasamitra, will open its new exhibition, ‘Waterfall of Kites’, to the public on Thursday 20th February 2025 at Halifax Minster, as part of Calderdale’s 50th anniversary ‘Year of Culture’ celebrations, CultureDale.
